You can buy kits, but when you pay for those that it works exactly as expensive as buying an electric bike built for this purpose. Unless you have a passion for building a bike and some knowledge of electrics, I think buying a new bike would be the preferable option. Also, if you live in the United Kingdom and want to remain 100% legal, you have to adapt to the bike with a flange that everything that can go over 15 mph is classified as a motor vehicle and is liable for road tax, etc. If you are not interested in legality, then you can buy a rear wheel with a hub motor and battery, then you just have to wire up some form of switching mechanism. I wired my electric bike with electric light switch that bypasses the flange, which is not ideal but it is very effective.

Hub motors are the easiest to install.


Overview:
