Metal Porch Swing

Metal Porch SwingHow do you remove rust from an old metal porch swing?

I have a circa 1950 metal porch glider. Previously, my grandparents and I have inherited. Over the years the paint has gone and collected some rust. I would like to remove the rust, then paint it with spray paint anti-rust enamel. Does anyone have solutions for removing rust and pointers for when I paint it?

Use a product called "ospho" deot avaialble at home, Lowes, or any paint store ... I'll give you a link showing the product .. I think that the link show price per gallon basis, but it is offered to quarters Stors material .. this spray on the rust with a common spray and let set overnight .. then the next day, brush it with a wire brush, the first and paint ... This product actually changes the rust into a different chemical compound and there is no rust .. I am an experienced painter 37 years and we use it faithfully. .. Naval jelly is a kind of obsolete now days, but works well, but .. takes more time and effort .. You have to brush the gel and many other procedures using a lot .. more time with ospho .. you spray and go. .

I have to recommend Rusterizer, even to the painter of 37 years of experience! You can find it online mycleaningproducts.com. We have wrought iron garden furniture with a honeycomb of small and distinct conception and this product is biodegradable, spray on, and works immediately. Spray off in 5 minutes Report Abuse

First, the old paint can be a retail value for the glider, making it an antique, try a small web-based survey on the model and the expected value.
If this is not too big, you can use sandpaper to remove rust and peeling paint. The paint adheres well, although faded, is not a problem with the new enamel. You can use steel wool or copper scouring pads. If the thing is great, try sandpaper disc mounted on a drill or sander. Or you can use a commercially available rust. Some should be rinsed but some can be painted on the right. When you're ready to paint a canvas spread on your work surface. Bring the kids or pets. Make sure you have proper ventilation.

You can use rust as "Navel Jelly" brush you leave him alone, then clean. Combine that with a wire brush mild steel.

What has always worked well for me was a steel brush on my drill. They come from different types and rigidity. You do not want one that is too sure where it will leave scratches in the surface. You do not want one that is too soft, because it will not remove rust.

Make sure you use a good metal primer before painting. Metal must be primed or peeling paint will be next year or even earlier.
