The normal European standards for modeling, also known as NEM, lists currently twelve sizes for model trains, tiny models all the way up to 1:220 1:5.5 great! To be truly considered a model toy train, they are generally either caliber or gauge SO, although the HO scale and N scale models are easier to find in toy stores.

A good way to start with model trains is to buy a pre-packaged together. Companies such as Lionel and Bachmann make great starter sets, and they are collectible as well.

Once you get a little experience, you may want to start buying parts separately. You can buy train cars, tracks and accessories separately, so you can choose only the songs you really want.

If you love trains, you might consider joining the model railroad club or another club like this. This club was formed in London in 1910, and they are the oldest club in the world now. Clubs like this are a great way to get more information on things you can do with your toy trains, and share your interests with others who have as much fun as you do!

Lionel toy trains

Lionel is by far the most popular machine toy trains. The company has existed for over 100 years, began in 1900. It was founded as an electric company news, but the train quickly became the main staple of its product. They originally produced trains from 1901 through 1969, when they were purchased by General Mills. These days the company is still doing business, the construction of toy trains and accessories.

Electric trains can be metal, plastic or wood. metal trains are generally preferred by most enthusiasts. Plastic trains are usually reserved exclusively for children. Wooden Trains are loved by many people, but they lost favor with the public.

Some people buy model trains for children to play with, and others prefer to buy only for the collection. Those who buy to collect generally prefer older models and those made my major companies such as Lionel and Marx. People who buy their trains to play with can buy any manufacturer, and can even mix parts between manufacturers to build their ideal system.
