Wood Swing Set Plans

Wood Swing Set PlansWhat is the best choice for a swing? Metal, wood or plastic?

I'm considering purchasing a swing for my niece and cousins, but I do not know what kind. I live in an area that rains a lot, but gets hot during the summer. I want them to be able to play on the year. If I get a wood one, do I have to worry about splinters? A metal, it must do rust or sharp edges? A plastic, is it crack and break?

Thank you,
Ashley =.)

metal if you think you might move in the near future, otherwise if you know its going to stay there so I would go with wood. it will be easier to maintain to make it last longer, and easier to repair if you have problems

metal
wood rot and requires more maintenance and it is heavy, it is difficult to move
plastic does not stand up to UV light

When I was a child ... in the 70's (OMG), we had a metal swing. It is now almost 40 years later (OMG!) And that swing is still in my parents yard. We played with it on all our cousins, our children have played on it, and when my children have their own, they will play on it too. Metal lasts forever, everything you do is paint it with paint rustcoat when it starts to rust, and it is good to go for another 10 years. It rains and snows a lot where we live, and we did not even cover it in winter, and that swing is good to go in the spring. The children bounced around, it used as a jungle gym, tried to mangle Barbie on it, and nothing has ever damaged, and he never damaged any of us either. Go for the metal. The wood needs a ton of maintenance, and the plastic does not last AT ALL in the sun. Have fun and good luck!

metal because it lasts longer than plastic and wood
